# Convert

> Convert a document from one format to another while preserving its layout and content.

<Callout type="info" title="Coming soon">
  This Operation is on our roadmap and not available yet. [Contact

</Callout>

The **Convert** Operation transforms a document from one file format into another — for example `ODT → DOCX`, `XLS → XLSX`, or anything → `PDF`, while keeping the original layout, styling, and content intact. Unlike [Parse](https://docs.axelered.com/parse), which reduces a document to clean Markdown, Convert produces a faithful, fully-formatted copy of the source in the target office format.

* **Layout-Preserving**: Styles, tables, images, and pagination are carried over to the target format.
* **Office-Grade Fidelity**: Conversions are driven by a headless LibreOffice engine, the same technology that backs our parsing pipeline.
* **Universal PDF Target**: Any supported document, spreadsheet, or presentation can be rendered to `PDF`.

## 🔁 Conversion Matrix

Conversions are performed within the same document **family** — text documents, spreadsheets, and presentations each convert among their own formats — with `pdf` available as a universal target for every family.

| Family            | Source Formats                             | Target Formats                             |
| :---------------- | :----------------------------------------- | :----------------------------------------- |
| **Documents**     | `doc`, `docx`, `odt`, `rtf`, `txt`, `html` | `pdf`, `docx`, `odt`, `rtf`, `txt`, `html` |
| **Spreadsheets**  | `xls`, `xlsx`, `ods`, `csv`                | `pdf`, `xlsx`, `ods`, `csv`, `html`        |
| **Presentations** | `ppt`, `pptx`, `odp`                       | `pdf`, `pptx`, `odp`                       |
